Down to earth and down for his friends, if 17 year-old Jed Anderson is feeling the expectations of the Canadian shred scene on his curly hair, he definitely isn't showing it. Jed has a solid crew behind him with the Cheese Dicks, a new board backer with Salomon, and is filming with a dream line-up of riders for the new Transworld Snow flick, Get Real.
Not many Canadians seem to have that "je ne sais quoi" that makes the US scene stand up and take notice, but something about Jed seems to strike a chord with people and other riders, making him more than just another tight-panted ripper.

The last few years have gotten Jed out into the public eye with his skate-style rail riding, urban assaults, and smooth jumping, but lately also decided to start winning nearly every contest he entered this winter. It was quite a shock when he took first place at the Canadian Open, with his style-first halfpipe run beating out all the tech robots. Who knew he was a pipe dog, too? Actually, this seasoned (for a 17 year-old) vet has been competing in pro contests against the likes of Haakon and White since 2002. Rail contests? Forget about it, they're in the wrapper as well, which Jed proved in Cypress just a couple weeks after his Canadian Open win.
Damn. Jed Anderson is no joke. Did I mention this Cheese Dick is also a full on double-threat and could have a second career as a skater? No Shaun White skating either, pure street Thrashin'.
So I'm sure a lot of people asked you about your pipe win at the Canadian Open, but all I really want to know about is the Cheese Dick Kult. So lets get down to business: Who are they and what are they all about?
The Cheese Dick Kult is a bunch of monsters, just thrashing and feeding off alien brains and knees. Some skateboard, some snowboard, some don't do anything at all! Pretty much me and my friend started a gang... pretty B.A.

If the name didn't come from riding in dirty long johns for three days straight without showering, where did it originate?
We just thought it was a funny word. Cheesy dick, gravy dick, goopy dick, pudding dick...
You have a pro-model goggle on Air Blaster right? Do you ever wear goggles?
Heck, yeah! Just not at C.O.P... or on hand rails. But I always wear them in the mountains and stuff.
Alberta for life?
Maybe... It's home!

Whose the most influential rider to ever come out of Alberta?
Hmm... thats hard. Probably Riley Boland. Or maybe Michalchuk.
Do you ever get mistaken for that guy from Hot Hot Heat?
Nah.
I found this recently on a message board: "I remember when no one knew who Jed Anderson was until big shit like transworld started noticin him. now all these little asskissers are being annoying filling the comment board with shit like "JeD AnDerSon roxs my soxs d00d!" and "suck my cock jed Anderson jesus man guy" if i were him i would get frustrated to shit with all these asskissers. and didnt he used to ride for rome? he always repped a rome. and why would he go with salomon? id stick with rome or go for something better than salomon. oh well, sick teaser." Most riders just get annihilated on message boards, where as judging from this post I dug up, it seems you must be annoyed by all the ass-kissers. Do you want to be hated on?
Hate or love, I don't really care. As dumb as it sounds, its good to be talked about, no matter what. It's sick that some kids are down for me, but it would be weird if no one hated. I expect hate... who doesn't get hated on? Kids will always find something to hate on... it's awesome! As far as Rome goes, I thought they were a cool company. I just couldn't get boards or enough support from them to do what I wanted to do on my snowboard. I'm happy with Salomon for sure. Kids can hate, but it's a pretty sweet company.

Didn't you also ride for K2 for a minute?
Nah, not at all. Nick [Dirks] just gave me a K2 board one day because I broke all of my Rome boards... then K2 sent me a few things... and then I guess it just worked out with Salomon, especially with having some friends like Louif [Paradis] on the team.

What are your thoughts on snowmobiles? Do you hate them as much as some other jib-gypsy types?
Nah, I don't hate them. I suck at riding them, I know that. I have nothing against them; they can get you to some really cool zones.
Who are you hyped to have aboard the Get Real crew?
Grendy's, Scott, Clancy... everyone!
Final words?
Have fun with whatever you do. Don't take yourself too seriously. Don't take anything too serious. Do the things you want to do while you can!
