Penny Lover: Joey Williams
Posted On Sep 30 2010, 10:34 AM by fdaniello

Amongst all the contest mayhem going on in the columns section over the last couple months, a feature interview with East Vancouver’s Joey Williams was in the mix. I was recently doing some rainy-day mouse-click rummaging through a few folders and came across some extras from our interview session:

Joey at the welcome gates of The Palace – a sizeable and interesting home he shares with the likes of Spencer Hamilton, Wade Desarmo, Bryan Wherry, Cain Cripps and Ian Twa.

Click the pop-shuv image for some 2010 Barcelona footy featuring Joey Williams and Travis Stenger as seen on Global Skateboarding.

Joey on the roof filming The Palace’s house cat, Penny. Perhaps the footy is for another Penny Lover video installment?

What’s this, you ask? I’ll let Joey explain it:

“Ian Twa’s cat Penny is an icon around here. The mural I painted in my room is based on a photo I shot of her doing this crazy roof gap on the last day we lived at our place downtown, like 3 years ago. Penny jumped off this rotten tree onto the top of a garage, and the tree branch broke right as she jumped. It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen, so I just tried to recreate a cityscape with her jumping over it [laughs]. We had it as a griptape stencil as well. Penny’s a big deal around here.”

Joey, along with Mike McDermott, Russ Milligan, Cameo Wilson, Dane Collison and Jay Brown went to BC’s Interior in late August for DVS Canada's “In Tents 2” tour. Click the image to watch Joey’s sick ollie into an all-vert pool in the Part 1 video.
