Got some pretty rad news today. We were riding Snow Park, and saw I my Korean friend Jihye rode by to say hi. This is the person who flew me to Korea to compete in the EXR big air just outside of Seoul in Vivaldi Park. It was super cool seeing her again and she joined up with Vanessa, Duncan and myself to do some laps. We chatted a bit about plans for next year and it sounds like I’ll probably be going to Korea to compete again this coming season. The last time I went to Korea was amazing and I’m super stoked to go back... The other day we got good weather. We drove up the Snow Farm road to ride the famous Snow Park. It was very strange to see how deserted this resort was. There were no lift lines and we never waited to hit a jump or rail. It really felt like your own private park.

We were looking forward to hitting the bag jump, but when we got up, we found out it was an additional $75 per person. We couldn’t afford it, so we had to do some real snowboarding instead. The snow conditions were great since they had 15 cm of fresh snow but it was really warm and we couldn’t get enough speed to hit the step up jump. We hiked a big round downrail for a while and I spent some time trying my tap frontboard trick. I was looking forward to hitting the step up and I think we were all disappointed that this jump wasn’t a possibility. Also the 3rd jump in the line, which was the biggest had too short of a landing for my comfort so we just played on the smaller first two ones. We filmed with our go-pro while Vanessa snapped some photos. We strapped the go-pro onto the end of ski pole that I sawed in half and filmed with it off the jumps. We love how the shots are turning out. They look amazing. Check it out in our video.

Later in the afternoon a helicopter showed up and some ski crew started filming on the 3rd jump. Those crazy skiers will hit anything.

They were super rad about letting us continue riding the first two jumps. We just had to let the helicopter and the skier go first.

We were all kinda rusty and it took a little while to get our jumping legs back. By the end of the day we were starting to throw some 7s and 9s. The jumps were too small to consider doing a 10 on them but we’re all eager to throw some big spins.

At the bottom of the park there was this big black water barrel to tap. It was set up like 10 feet high with kind of an awkward jump. Both Paul and I each took pretty good falls on this barrel. I got hung up on it while Paul over shot the landing and exploded in the flat. But we were able to walk away with a couple cool shots and photos.

It was a sweet day up at Snowpark, but then the bad weather came back along with the rain.

We decided to go visit friends in Wanaka and party. We spent the next day lazing around our friends place in Wanaka. We didn’t mind because the mountains were closed due to gale winds and heavy rain. So bad that Cardrona is now shut for an indefinite amount of time.
