Ever since the introduction of the Walkman for your
cassette tapes (what're those?), technology has given people the ability to
walk the streets listening to their favorite tunes. After the Walkman, we saw
the introduction of the portable CD player, the mini disc player, the mp3 flash
player, and finally the iPod. Kevin Griffin is one of those has been along for the ride, keeping his music close at all times. In order to find out
what role music has in Kevin's life, I decided to ask him about his favorite
tunes and what they meant to him. Check it out.

Lots of
people out there prefer to skate with their iPod so they can "focus" and "get
in the zone" while they are shredding. Does this apply to you?
It makes sense. For me it's
a way to block out everything else going on around me. I go through phases
though, sometimes I will go home if my iPod dies. Other times I'll go two weeks
without it.
How
important would you say music is in your day-to-day life?
Very. It sets the mood for my day every morning when I wake up.
What type of
music do you listen to? Does it differ depending on what your doing?
I listen to all kinds of music. When I'm shredding, it's usually rap or
hip-hop. When I was younger, I skated 24/7 and all I listened to was rap. It
reminds me of eating shit on pavement and how much more savage skating is. It
also makes me try so much harder because we fall on snow, it's mellow. When I'm
chillin', I usually listen to mellow music. Right now I have "Rocky Raccoon" from the
Beatles' White Album playing. That's
a fave for sure. Old hip hop, too. When I'm partying I usually listen to some
house music. Browner has some sick mixes online that are an hour long and they're
perfect for partying. Radio hits are always a goodtime too.

When was the
last time you bought a CD? What was it?
Honestly I can't remember. It was probably three or four years ago, and a
hip-hop CD for sure. The first CD
I ever bought was a Big L (RIP)
album. It's possibly the best rap CD out there to date.
