Mikey Rencz: Mix Tape
Posted On Dec 20 2010, 03:21 PM by mscott

Ever since the introduction of the Walkman for your cassette tapes (what're those?), technology has given people the ability to walk the streets listening to their favorite tunes. After the Walkman, we saw the introduction of the portable CD player, the mini disc player, the mp3 flash player, and finally the iPod. Mikey Rencz is one of those has been along for the ride, keeping his music close at all times. In order to find out what role music has in Mikey's life, I decided to ask him about his favorite tunes and what they meant to him. Check it out.

Ever wonder what Mikey is rockin' in those headphones? (Aside from instructions from the pilot explaining how not to die.)

Lots of people out there prefer to shred with their iPod so they can "focus" and "get in the zone" while they are shredding. Do you ride with tunes?
I can understand that for sure. Personally, don't ride with music very much, mostly because that doesn't really work out too well in the backcountry very well. But I do always have to have some good beats when I am driving to the spot in the morning.

How important would you say music is in your day-to-day life?
It's super important because finding new songs and new artists is super fun for me. I'm always searching the ‘net for new mixtapes and shit like that.

What type of music do you listen to? Does it differ depending on what your doing?
I appreciate a few different types of music, but if you searched my library it's probably 95% hip-hop. Usually a bunch of Trouble Gang stuff to switch it up too. I used to listen to some of that freaky techno stuff but not really anymore.

When was the last time you bought a CD? What was it?
Birdman, 5 Star Stunna.  It's still stuck in my CD player and it's totally broken. Strictly rollin' with iPod now.

What are your top three artists/groups of all time?
This will be a loose list, but here we go; Dip Set, Old 50 Cent, and Wu Tang ‘cause it's straight classic.

What are your top five songs of all time?
You know what, I‘m just gonna change this to my top five most played right now so that way I'm not sitting here all night scratching my head:
1.  Wooh Da Kid, "Black Out"
2.  Wiz Khalifa ft. Juicy J, "In My Car"
3.  B.G. ft. Young Jeezy, "Hustle"
4.  Team Facelift ft. Trouble Andrew, "Walking Through The Dark"
5.  Rick Ross, "Money Maker"

What's the best song that's been used in a snowboard video?
Souls Of Mischief, ‘"93 Til Infinity". Chris Dufficy in Forum's True Life.

If you could make the ultimate ten song playlist to shred too, what songs would be on it?
1.  Wu-Tang, "Triumph"
2.  Fat Joe, "My Lifestyle"
3.  EMPD, "Da Joint"
4.  Biggie, (anything)
5.  Cam'ron ft. Hell Rell, "Get ‘em Daddy"
6.  Trouble ft. Jofo, "Dream On"
7.  Waka Flocka, "Bang"
10. Trick Daddy, "Tuck Ya Ice"
11. Shawty Lo, "Got ‘Em 4 The Lo"
12. Obie Trice, "Love Me"
