The Home and Talents of Wes Makepeace
Posted On Mar 01 2011, 04:22 PM by Jon Roth

Based on where I am, it feels only natural that the subject of today's blog should be the great and infamous Wes Makepeace.

I am currently in Rossland, BC,what was once the home of the Makepeaces. It has been my great pleasure in life to end up being friends with some of my heroes.  Sometimes it can disappoint, but oft times it does not...this being one of those times. I have been fortunate enough to have grown up knowing Wes from a fan stand point in both his music and his boarding, then actually getting to know the man behind both personally. Wes has had a peppered past but I think it has made him a stronger man and certainly lends itself to the style of music he writes and performs. You watch any snowboard video from the last four years and you will have heard one of his tunes. He was most recently the soundtrack to Devun and Ikka's first Polar Opposites webisode, and played at the Mt. Baker Banked Slalom.

The song is called "18 Wheeler" it is one of his newer tunes, and it's great! Since I left the west coast some four years ago, I hadn't heard much out of the Wes Makepeace camp but then just yesterday whilst in Rossland, BC, his old home town, I tuned into that video and there he was in all his glory. I want to thank Wes personally for the influence he has had on me both on and off the snow. Whether it was in the Lamar or Lib Tech days or at the Crab Shack or on my porch, he always has had a unique approach to life and for this I salute him! Wes is single handedly responsible for my obsession with Steve Earle, which says a lot. Check out some more tunes here.
