More tragic news coming out of Vancouver this weekend as Glenna Evans was killed the day before her 28th birthday. The competitive downhill skateboarder and artist died Friday in North Vancouver when she failed to negotiate a turn at the bottom of Mt. Seymour and collided with a van.
According to a family statement: "“Glenna Evans was an honours student at Emily Carr University. She had finished her third year in the fine arts program and was to begin completion of a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree this fall. She earned awards at university and in high school in Victoria. [She] was a serious longboard skate competitor for several years and has placed well in international competition in the U.S. and Canada. She was practicing in full racing gear at Mount Seymour.”
Meaning she was wearing a helmet amongst other protective gear.
Glenna's website shows her love of skateboarding, tattooing, and art. For more information the Vancouver Sun and Vancouverite both have detailed write-ups.
