NOMIS Lights Up The Night At Horseshoe
Posted On Aug 05 2010, 11:40 AM by Matt Meadows

The NOMIS guys have never been one to sit around and wait for things to happen. That’s why it comes as no surprise that while you were out at the local watering hole on the weekend they had begun to sponsor their new event Nomis Friday Night Lights. Keep your eyes peeled for more great footy coming from under the night sky, but for now enjoy an account sent to us from Horseshoe of this past Friday night’s evenings events.

From Horseshoe:

This past Friday marked the kick off of the NOMIS Friday Night Lights event at the Horseshoe Adventure Park. The event which is running the last Friday night in July, August and September is a grassroots, super mellow night session in the slick 4’ mini ramp as well as a few creative best trick off’s on the features within the park.

This week’s event ended up being an awesome night. Cool temperatures, lots of familiar faces and some great talent made the trip out to Horseshoe to skate the park and collect as many high fives as possible. Artist, skater and winter park staff Ryan “Smolik” Helstern dropped in for some laps of the mini and gave his thumbs up of approval.

The night started off with a bang, Mikey Walker of NOMIS and Richard Roth organizing the skate rabble into a “line” and kicked off a hip session. The tricks were hot and heavy and apparently bigspins were on the menu.  Joe Poulin with a front bigspin heelflip, Chris Sajdik, nollie bigspin and a bs bigspin flip by Mike King were some of the bigspin bangers. While Kyle Doyle dropped a bs 360 kickflip for good measure.

After the hip session came the mini ramp. Not gonna lie some amazing skating was going down. Too much to accurately describe really… Mikey Walker of Nomis showed everyone how its done with his arm in a neon green cast. Smolik and super star barrista Joe Perry had everyone on the oohs and ahhs with smooth tricks and loads of style. It definelty showed that Smolik has a pet mini in his garage. The mini session went on for awhile, competitors, lurkers and spectators dropped in for a few walls while a crowd of on lookers cheered, jeered and enjoyed a tasty beverage under the lights of Horsehoe’s skate park.

Although, the night wasn’t over after the mini session, next came the high ollie contest.  The stage was set for some high jumping, and jump they did up to 4.5 feet! Lots of laughs as skaters willed them self to ollie a piece of bamboo with the peanut gallery in full effect.

A great time was had by all, especially the kids Mikey Walker had foot racing around the park for some hats and stickers…kids are fast these days! What a way to end the night. The park closes at 10pm but it was at least 11 by the time we cleared the park, rolled up our banners and shuffled the 100m to the Crazy Horse for an adult beverage and some always amazing food.

Make sure you mark down Aug 27th as we are hooking up with NOMIS again for another Friday Night Lights at the Horseshoe Adventure Park. Huge thanks go out to Push for always supporting what we do, Mikey Walker and Nomis, Ron Jon Surf Shop, Rich Roth for putting in work on a bum ankle, Horseshoe Resort for supporting the kids and the sport and everyone who made it out to say hi and skate.
