Tampa Pro 2010

Tampa Pro 2010 is kicking off today although the actual skating doesn't start until Friday. The Live HD Webcast airing on Sunday March 14th @ 12pm EST on Fuel.tv.

Today is the unofficial kick-off with many fishing boats full of pro-skaters hitting the waters of Florida and of course the "after parties" are already starting up tonight.

Friday is street practice, Am Vert, and the Bro Bowl Session. Toronto big timers, Fucked Up, are headlining the party tonight.

Saturday the street qualifiers take place.

Sunday everything wraps up. Semi's, Finals, and Best Trick.

Omar Salazar Nike Skate Jam

Nike SB released an Omar Salazar pro shoe and they pulled out all the stops in doing so. Over the course of two days there were parties in San Fran and a skate jam in Sacramento, Omar's home town. Skaters in the video include: Chris Nichols, Taylor Bingaman, Glenn Medrano, Rob Mason, Ishod Wair, Justin Brock, Paul Rodriguez, Mikey Burton, Daryl Angel, and Omar Salazar.

To commerate the launch Nike also created a full Omar outerspace microsite, which is actually pretty cool.

D.I.Y America: Selling out

Skateboarding for money vs. selling out - it's a delicate balance that will be debated until the end of time. Make money and you're selling out, don't make money and...well you're not making any money but at least you're keeping it real if that counts for anything.

The D.I.Y America series 'Skate and Create' continues with Part 6 about Selling Out in Skateboarding. Read Below:

"Craig Stecyk, Damon Way, Harmony Korine, Tony Hawk, Fausto Vitello, Ray Barbee, Tommy Guerrero and Chris Pastras give their opinions about selling out in the skateboarding community and how skateboarding has gone from an underground scene to a mainstream affair."

FTC: For The Cash Contest

It may have happened last week but the coverage keeps flowing in. Possibly the biggest contest ever to be held in such a small venue. The contest was literally held in-store. FTC, the San Fran staple, cleaned out the shop for a day and turned the entire place into a custom built skate park.

The list of who's who that appeared to participate or just hang out would stretch down the page: Stevie Williams, Huf, DC team, Real team, Baker Boys, etc.

Knowing space would be at a premium the organizers planned ahead to have numerous heats with a limited number of invited competitors.

In the end it was Peter Ramondetta walking away with the $5000 in cash.

Jamie Tancowny Interview

After the ending part in the Zero vid and a part in Emerica's up-coming 'Stay Gold' there will be a lot more Jamie coming soon. This is a good thing.

Hoffart VS. Carlsbad Gap

Rob Dyrdek's Pro Skate League

As skateboard/entertainment maven Rob Dyrdek hinted at in this INC. interview he is putting together a Professional Skate League that could change the future of competitive street skateboarding.

According to Skate Daily, "24 hand-picked pro street skaters will enter into exclusive contracts and compete in a 3-stop tour of street contests later this year. With customized concrete street plazas, a real-time scoring system, a hefty prize purse, televised shows of the tour, and much more, Dyrdek’s Street League™ could very well become the “next level” that competitive skateboarding and fans are looking for."

Does this "exclusive contract" mean these skaters will no longer be competing in the X-Games, Dew Tour, or Maloof Money Cup? Did Dyrdek partner with his Maloof homies?

So many questions that will be answered in time by tuning in as the official website and details roll out soon.

On the Skate News front over the last week, the Girl + Chocolate Skatepark video came out from Thrasher, Benny Stoddard is featured in this Skate 3 video, Ian Twa had a sweet profile on Skate New Spot, Vincent Alvarez stars in the latest Lakai commercial, Cons Skatepark video shows off their new park with the new team riders ripping it, Biebel's Top Ten Tracks are picked, the time is now to vote for the Canadian teams on The Berrics Younited Nations, remixed video parts popped up from Mark Appleyard and Jordan Hoffart, recent footage from Canadians Morgan Smith, Ryan Bonnell, and Will Marshall enjoying Barcelona was released, and don't miss the Human Giant video celebrating Nathan Matthews.

In Columns, Frank Daniello has a look at The Canadian Side of the Brain with Sierra Fellers. Owen Woytowich knows it gets mad cold in the Prairie's over the winter. In a bizarre twist a family bought an old high school to live in and have opened up the doors to local skaters. Morgan Smith Funday w/ Blind

TWSkate has a new feature up called Sunday Funday's. Episode One shows Danny Cerezini, Sean Sheffey, Ronnie Creager, Filipe Ortiz, Jake Duncombe, and Morgan Smith having some fun kicking the board around on the weekend.

Morgan also has some new clips on the Blind site talking about the Eternal Life II boards he has been skating. More importantly the video shows him skating the new decks. Have a look here.

Plan B + Element Unite

The acquisitions continue as Billabong gobbles up Plan B. Canadian distribution will remain the same. Colin McKay is stoked...are you?

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, March 5TH, 2010: Billabong International Limited today announced it has entered an exclusive 10-year agreement to license the California-based skateboard brand Plan B. Plan B will operate out of the Element headquarters in Irvine, CA

Hoffart's Powell 'FUN' remix

As Sean Puffy Combs used to repeat over Bad Boy beats "We invented the remix!" He self-credits himself with popularizing the cashing in on old material by changing it up a little.

Well the skateboard industry seems to have caught onto this little scheme by remixing all sorts of old video parts lately. This one here is a tastefully done remix that makes Jordan Hoffart seem like more of a gentle man than he is. There's no way he was banging those hammers off listening to Foreigner.

Anyway watch the sexy video below that I am dubbing the "Lovers and Other Strangers Remix" for Jordan Hoffart's part in the Powell 'Fun' video.
