T.O. Snow Show Wrap Up + Gallery
Posted On Oct 19 2009, 09:59 PM by encomintor

Another year, another Toronto Ski, Snowboard and Travel Show (it's full name, but we'll stick to T.O. Snow Show). If you didn't know, it's the biggest consumer snow sports show of it's kind in Canada, and this year was no different. Maybe the tough economic times drove people to find the best deals (boring), or it was the crisp bite of winter that's been in the Ontario air in the past week (way more likely), but regardless the cause, the aisles were still packed and the merchandise was still flying.

Yep, that's a ski show.

More than just a consumer show, the four days are an excuse for industry folks and friends with Air Miles to fly in for parties and film premieres. Things kicked off on Thursday night at the Wrongbar with the Ride Shakedown party (in association with Push.ca!), bringing the French flavour that makes the Shakedown in Quebec such a hit. Friday's hangover and late arrival at the office tells me that we got it in spades. DJ Skratch Bastid kept things moving, with a brief live set from Tona to mix it up. Here's a few photos from the night, but check our gallery for the full photo story.

Back at the show on Friday, the first night of the Snowboard Canada Film Festival, presented by Monster, kicked off. The festival started by showing Brother's Factory Time Is Now and Alterna Films' Elektro at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre across the street from the show. Once the show closed it's doors for the day, it was time for the annual You Look Good! party and Sandbox premiere (showing their latest, Shine On), at the Great Hall. Perogies were had (always a class act, Singleton), Coors Lights were pounded, product was tossed and if you blinked you may have missed a creative board giveaway.

My annual tradition of "sleep-in Saturday" (or is that weekly?) ensured that I made it down to the show on Saturday afternoon for high-fives and story swaps from the night before. The Burton team rolled into town just in time for a team signing at the SBC booth, followed by the second night of the Film Festival. Showing Standard Films' Black Winter and Burton's The B Movie, people were excited. (Check our interview with the Burton team here.)

Mads Jonsson, Charles Reid, Mark Sollors and Natasza Zurek put sharpie to poster for the kids. (Mikey Rencz got delayed by a confused cab driver. Mississauga is nice this time of year, isn't it?)

The crowd outside the theatre getting hopped up on Monster Energy drinks.

When the films ended, a bus scooped the Burton team and their entourage, carrying them directly to the annual Snowboard Canada party at the Sound Academy. Never one to disappoint, this years party had DJ Maseo of De La Soul keeping the crowd company until the end of the night while the Monster drinks flowed.

This one's personal. SBC photo editor John Scarth saluting, while editor Scott Birke and rider Andrew Skelhorn discuss the finer points of what to do with torn shirts. Scarth, you owe me a shirt, or my dignity...whichever you find first.

Another year, another great time. If you missed any of it, I'm sure Facebook might have some answers. If you weren't there at all, you know to be there for next year. But not before what will surely be an awesome season of riding.

If you're feeling nostalgic, you can recap last year's show here.
