New Zealand Faces Delayed Winter
Posted On Jun 22 2011, 02:26 PM by Matt Meadows

It seems rather unfair that we enjoyed an almost never-ending winter whereas most resorts in New Zealand cannot even to get theirs started! Unfortunately, this is the case for the ever-popular mountainous country, as was reported by ESPN recently.

Most resorts had full intentions of opening at the beginning of June but due to unseasonably warm temparatures almost all have remained closed to the public. Speaking to ESPN, Kiwi skier Janina Kuzma noted, ”It's definitely abnormal not having any snow whatsoever at this stage of the year… The mountains are still brown and if there is snow up there, it's all manmade. We have no snow base. It's quite scary considering the mountains are set to open soon. Hopefully it will snow soon.”

For more on this story you can read Megan Michelson’s full ESPN article here.

Given the fluid exchange of citizens between Australia and Canada, it only makes sense that we showcase

Re comment posted from Z "hardly had any winter in NL .. could have played golf 'til December and started again in March". LMAO. I wonder where this person lives in NL? What a wild imagination and what a mega

exaggeration !!!!! Having lived through it, I am not exaggerating when I tell you that NL has the most "consistently bad" weather anywhere in Canada, maybe on the planet.

well Wally lets do the math shall we? It starts to get really cold, and occasionally snows in November. I live in Toronto and it usually snows into April- that makes nearly SIX MONTHS ie HALF THE YEARR it seems that you like to hear yourself talk more than anyone here

Well TinaC...Not that Wally was right to say what he said, or how he said it, but I live in Newfoundland ad we hardly had any winter at all. Infact, you could have played golf here till December and started again in March.

Wally - Ottawa is just a small part of Canada, and does not accurately reflect the weather in the entire country. I live in the Eastern Townships (QC). We had more snow than I have seen in years, and it definitely stuck around for half the year (VERY long winter). We have many golf courses in our town, and I can assure you nobody was playing in December. Try asking people in the Maritimes about their snow this year! Who really is the one who ends up looking "stupid' and "moronic"?

Well I can tell you that here in northern and northwestern Ontario can only wish we could golf in December....We had snow for six months here. It just figures, that like all the politicians, people from your area forget there is more to Canada than "the Ottawa area". Get out a map and take a look, CANADA goes beyond southern Ontario !!!!

Well, Wally, in the West the comment is true. Both last year and this year has seen constant rain and cool temperatures on the Pacific side of the country. According to several species of plants, we are roughly a month behind with ongoing rain. Our local winter was longer than normal, much longer. The only part I don't agree with is "enjoying" the never-ending winter.

"Almost never-ending winter" ??? No wonder people around the world think that we have winter half of the year after "STUPID" statements like this...what a moron.I live near Ottawa and play golf until December and start again in mid-March....maybe learn how to count and give up on this consent exaggeration ...Some people just like hearing themselves talk  !!
