Always dreamed of joining in on the festivities of Tailgate
Alaska but never been able to get up there? Well, founder Mark Sullivan has now
initiated a similar event right here in our own backyard! Allow us to introduce
you to Tailgate B.C. held from March 8-12, 2011 in Revelstoke British Columbia.
Similar to its big brother, Tailgate Alaska, the event is
focused on getting people into the backcountry and offers such amenities as
snow science classes, daily avalanche reports, discounted heli, beer garden and
lodging just to name a few.
Still unsure whether a contest will be incorporated into
Tailgate B.C., Sullivan is still in talks with Eagle Pass (the events Heli
provider) about the possibility.
In an interview with ESPN Sullivan noted, "The first
Tailgate B.C. is going to be kind of a pilot program…I'm going to limit the
attendance pretty severely compared to how many people could come, because I
really want it to be completely world class for all the people who do make it.
And that way I can build on that. So I'm thinking I'll max out at 200 people.
My goal is 150 people."
So down to brass tacks, what will it cost to join in on the
event? Actually, significantly less than the AK version ($199 vs. $299), which
can’t help but get thoughts of steep and deep tree lines running through our
heads.
If this peaks your interest as it has ours, check out the
Tailgate Alaska site for further details on the event and it’s BC spin off.
