Golden, BC. Small town, Big Mountains.

Driving west on the Trans Canada highway will lead you to classic mountain towns like Banff and Lake Louise.  Once you start driving west from there the next major stop is Golden, BC.  This is the point where you'll leave National Park boundaries and this small little town is the gate into BC's wild backcountry.  It's home to Kicking Horse ski resort which boasts some of the steepest gondola accessed terrain you can find in Canada.  The town is also known for another thing.  You'll be hard pressed to not see trailers filled with snowmobiles being towed around by some of the biggest trucks all over town. Snowmobile accessed snowboarding is amazing here and the deep snow makes it a regular stop for riders all over the world.  Consider this a small intro to a big mountain scene that is a must visit for hardcore powder riders and steep junkies.

Snowmobiling is tons of fun. Remember that it's in the backcountry and you'll need avalanche knowledge and all the proper safety gear (beacon, shovel, probe) before you head out. Even trying basic sled access powder takes alot of planning. rider Gary Zebrowski. Golden,BC

You'll also see alot of this.  Snowmobiles can be tricky machines to use.  If your in need of some company out there just put your hood up and people will gather like moths to a flame.  Golden, BC
