The Ride Shakedown has been calling Mont Saint-Sauveur home since 2002. The brainchild of Quebecois shredders Brendan O'Dowd and Patryck Bernier, this event has gained notoriety and a cult following in the snowboard community due to it's innovative set ups, out of control fans, high caliber riding and a format that really allows it's competitors to let loose. If snowboarding were high achool - a comparison that may not be that much of a stretch - Jake Kuzyk would be one of the ‘cool kids.' The crew that lurks on the sidelines of the big football game with leather jackets undone, jeans tapered in all the right places, and sunglasses hiding their ‘who cares' attitude. Backs are turned toward the game not paying

On an average day Smolik does not say much - he is a quiet man - but March 7 th , 2009 was no average day. I double checked that my snowboard and boots were in my van before leaving the house. These will be my most treasured items for the next four days. I was headed for Fernie, BC, in mid-winter, which means one thing: powder...and the steep lines that the East Kootenay's area is known for.
